Business Process Management 101

Information Guide to Business Process Management (BPM)

BPM: Knowledge Base Management

A Knowledge Base (KB) is simply a data repository or other data store that contains the definitions for, and history of, all business processes in a Business Process Management (BPM) system for an organization.

Information in a knowledge base is contained in a relational database so that queries can be performed on the database in real-time. In addition a knowledgebase provides an audit trail of historical information and is as such quite valuable when looking at trends, or doing strategic planning for process improvement.

Often, additional information from a business activity monitoring system, such as alerts, trigger points, and process status can be kept in a knowledge base as well for error analysis and reduction.
